Blackpool Championship Show 2009

By Graham Bates

The last show of the season for most of us and what a way to finish the year off.

Things are now coming together as we learn more about the Winter Gardens, it has taken us three shows but I think we have just about got the hang of putting on a pigeon show at Blackpool. I must say thank you to Sean Morrow and his team, they made a smashing job laying out the show; the idea we had at last year's meeting to move the sale pen area turned out to be a great success, it gave us much more room in the show area.

I must admit I had every intention of standing down at the show meeting. Things in the pigeon fancy have not been going to my liking this year and I think I have just got fed up with it all and after giving up the secretary's job at Nottingham I thought I may as well have a clean break as it been getting me a bit down of late. After hearing the news that folk were staying away from the show because I was running it, I did my best to get someone else to step in but without any luck. So, after having a chat and being persuaded by Evan Murray, Graham Bates, Brian Mead and the rest of the RPRA staff, I have decided that this show will now be my only involvement each year, so like it or not I am afraid you are all stuck with me for a little longer.

You know it was never my intension to run this show in the first place, it was only created because the NPA said they needed to have a National Show so I went and got them one, not any show but the biggest pigeon event of the year - I had better not say any more, had I?

Anyway, here we are and it looks like we are here to stay, the BHW are very pleased to have us so it matters little what the knockers think, we will just get on with enjoying ourselves .

We have put together a smashing bunch of folk to help run the Fancy Pigeon Show from all over the British Isles, only Evan and myself from Nottingha. Although I must admit the atmosphere is very similar, everyone is a diamond and they all got stuck into to the job at hand even the exhibitors I asked to help did their jobs to the letter. I think without doubt we have the best pigeon show of the season. We are now starting to enjoy the Blackpool event in every way. It may not be the largest show of the year but certainly the best. I would like to thank one or two folk their help and support and sponsorship.
