Best of Breed

By THE JUDGE

Well only one person contacted me about my last article so you all must be agreeing with me, that's wonderful.

Ever seen a simple job done the hard way? Well that's what the NPA is now seeking to do with the Best in Show judges debate.
My point about changing the Best of Breed versus a BIS and have a true expert judge seems to have been ignored, nothing different there.
First point, the NPA is seeking to introduce a class system of BIS judges, plus take a few years to get it fully operational? Why not make a big change and be prepared to involve the whole Fancy? My simple idea is to use the breed club judge as the best judge and not demote him to a 'C' third-rate judge.

A breed club judge could award a new 'STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE AWARD' which will replace the outdated NPA challenge certificate. Using the very present system we have, we adapt the judging marks, club breed judges already on the list will mark up to 97 points per bird. If a judge takes his best bird to victory row, he then has a fresh task if he thinks it merits further points seek three expert breed judges.

The show secretary then finds three of your own peers who are on the breed club list to each grant one extra point, only if they know the exhibit is completely the correct standard does it get a 100% mark.

Taking this a step forward, the standard of excellence could be awarded at a gala event hosted by the NPA, which could also host Fancy Pigeon Fancier of the Year, Novice, Master, Hall of Fame and Best Club/Show Secretary - the list is endless. The free post annual vote could include all this as well.
