Seasonal Tip from DAVID BLAND
As Winter can be a time when we experience severe weather conditions, a little glycerine floated on the surface of the birds' drinking water will prevent it freezing.

Swine Flu Virus.
Any flu "victims", shown to be suffering from H1N1 strain of influenza virus outside Mexico, have had only mild flu-like symptoms, and most of these probably have not had the 'flu jab'.
The general health profile in Mexico, where deaths have occurred, is lamentably poorer than elsewhere, and deaths are most likely due to combination effects.
The H1N1 strain is included in the current UK-based vaccine, but effect of its antibodies against the Mexican strain unknown.
What is frightening people is that the 1918-19 epidemic was an H1N1strain.
There is no pandemic, and unlikely to be one.

Feathered World wish it to be known that although David Bland of SPR writes a monthly Poultry article for Feathered World called 'Poultry Talk' he has and does not wish to have any connection with the new Forum which has the same title, 'Poultry Talk'. SPR provide a direct and confidential advisory service to all those who email or telephone. With all matters relating to poultry it is impossible to generalise as problem birds are affected by different environments although the end solution may be the same. It is only by dealing with the owner direct, as David Bland does, that such problems can be efficiently resolved and treated. SPR website email SPR
